Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
½ cup white sugar
1 ½ cup brown sugar
3 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 Tbsp. water
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions for bar:
Heat oven to 325F.
Grease a 13x9 inch pan with butter and dust lightly with flour.
Mix butter, white sugar, and ½ cup brown sugar in a bowl.
Add egg yolks, vanilla extract, water, flour and baking soda.
Pour the mix into the pan and spread evenly.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over surface of mix.
Instructions for meringue:
Beat egg whites stiff, gradually adding the remaining 1 cup brown sugar in quick, small increments—careful not to over-whip the egg whites!
Place six dollops of meringue onto of the chocolate chip-covered mix and spread evenly—avoid lifting up the mix below.
Bake for 35 minutes!
